The item addresses the exponential increase in demand for pepper spray and alternatives due to recent incidents in which women have been harassed. Normal pepper spray is forbidden in the Netherlands, but there are legal alternatives for sale.

Pepper spray is seen by many people as a good way to protect themselves or loved ones, but is not legal and even punishable in the Netherlands and Belgium. Buying pepper spray just across the border in Germany is fairly easy to do and you can even order it online, but having pepper spray in the Netherlands is subject to the Weapons and Ammunition Act and can result in a criminal record for the wearer.
