Smart alarm system

A smart alarm system is based on a Hub. You connect this hub to the internet with an Ethernet cable, WiFi or SIM card to further set up the system via an app on your phone. You then connect the various detectors and sensors one by one. These can be PIR motion detectors, for example, but also the control unit of your garage or garden lighting. After you have connected all accessories to the smart alarm system, you can set up the logic. This means, for example, that when you close curtains, lamp 2 switches on. The entire smart alarm system can be adjusted to your wishes and situation. Of course, a smart alarm system can also be used just for the alarm functions and the other home automation options are optional.

• Tip 1: secure all entrances to your home

Easily accessible doors and windows must all be equipped with a sensor to be effective. An advantage of smart alarm systems is that you can easily add components and link them to the central system.

• Tip 2: Change the password of the system

  Passwords that are standard on smart products are not secure. They are standard combinations, lists of which can be found on the internet. Always choose your own, secure password with more than enough characters. It is also wise to change it regularly.

• Tip 3: Connect the alarm system to the smartphone of more than one person

  As soon as your smart alarm system detects something, you will receive a message on linked smartphones. This allows you to determine whether there is reason to raise the alarm. There are situations where you don't have the opportunity to check this. Maybe you are busy at work or experiencing problems with your smartphone. In such a case it is a nice thought that someone else has the opportunity to respond. Always connect a number of smartphones to your alarm system if you live with several people. When you live alone, it is wise to choose someone you trust.

• Tip 4: Check that everything is functioning properly

  When you have hung up all the components of the smart alarm system, you have not yet finished setting up your security system. Check everything carefully. Do all cameras work and do they cover every corner and hallway of the house? Does each component have a connection to the central system? In addition, it is recommended to regularly check the state of the batteries. In many cases you can simply see this via the application on your smartphone.

• Tip 5: install a smart doorbell

  For many people, a smart doorbell is not much more than a fun and handy gadget. But it is also a useful part of an alarm system. Because by no means all criminals sneak in through a window in the middle of the night. Sometimes a malicious person just rings your doorbell. The elderly in particular are victims of this type of crime. A smart doorbell shows who is at the door before you open it. It contains a camera, a microphone and a speaker.
