The Stand-alone IP security camera

When installing IP security cameras, no cable network needs to be installed, because the images are sent via the WiFi network. However, the cameras must be connected to AC power in order to operate. This can be inconvenient when you want to secure a room where the available power points are already in use. Moreover, it is a shame if the camera constantly uses power, while no suspicious activity takes place for months. Thanks to an internal battery, this stand-alone camera does not need to be connected to the power network. A full battery lasts up to 3 months, connected to a power bank even up to 24 months. As long as no movements are detected, the camera is in standby mode. As soon as the PIR motion sensor picks up something, the camera switches on to take a photo and video.

Although a stand-alone IP camera has many advantages, it is often wiser to opt for a complete system with a recorder. this is for the following reasons:

• An IP camera system with a recorder is more stable in use because a cable runs from the IP camera to the recording device. This is always better than a wireless (wi-fi) connection.
• Multiple cameras can be controlled from one point.
• There is a larger storage capacity that can be placed in the recorder than in the IP camera itself. The IP camera has an SD card slot, while an HDD can be placed in an NVR.

On the other hand, there are also a lot of advantages for a smart AP camera that works stand-alone. The number of smart methods to secure your home is only increasing. • You do not need a hub or central unit with an IP camera.
