Camera cables

With camera cables you can connect a security camera to a recorder or to the mains power. In a camera system, a cable runs from the recorder to the various cameras. This camera cable transmits the image to the recorder and the power to the camera. Although camera cables are included with most camera systems, they are often in a standard size and if this does not fit you will have to buy the camera cables separately.

Types of camera cables

It depends on the technique of the security camera system which camera cables you need. Below we briefly describe the different versions and features.

UTP camera cables

UTP cables are nowadays most common in a camera system. These surveillance camera cables are indicated with CAT and a value. For a surveillance camera system you need a CAT5 or higher classification camera cable. The advantage of a UTP cable is that it is reasonably thin and the connector can be cut with special pliers. The diameter of a hole that you may have to drill to hang the security camera can be a lot smaller than if you have a camera cable with a fixed connector. Furthermore, with UTP camera cables the image, sound and power all run over the same camera cable, while with Coax these are separate cables that are sometimes attached to each other.

BNC camera cables

BNC camera cables are nowadays almost no longer used in new camera systems due to the emergence of the aforementioned utp camera cables. BNC are camera cables that use a COAx cable and are somewhat thicker and stiffer and usually have a separate power cable running to the video cable. The connectors are also different from UTP cables and difficult for individuals to confirm themselves when the standard size camera cable is not sufficient. An installer is then quickly needed to pull the camera cable and attach the connector.

RCA cables

These camera cables are also called Tulip cables and nowadays they are no longer used with camera systems. Some security cameras do have an RCA connection to adjust the camera image. Via the RCA cable you can then immediately see the image of the security camera on a monitor.

Gradient camera cables

Besides the standard sizes, there are also camera cables that are made to make a transition from a Jack output. The jack output is used with mini cameras because of a lack of space for a normal RCA connection. The jack to rca camera cable then makes it possible to connect the camera to a TV or monitor.

Camera cable plugs

Especially with the BNC and RCA cables, connectors or plugs are sometimes required to connect them to a TV, monitor or recorder. It is therefore important to take a good look at which connection the camera cable has and what you want to connect it to whether you do not need a camera cable plug or connector.

Quality camera cables

Besides the different camera cable models, there is also a difference in quality within the same camera cable group. This often has to do with the classification of the cable, which can be seen on the camera cable itself.
