Wired alarm system

The very first alarm system was wired and there are still many alarm systems that are wired. Most alarm system installers still only work with wired systems and stay far away from wireless solutions. We at Sitcon do not believe in the added value of a wired alarm system until a class 3 (Grade 3) certification and for that reason only offer wireless solutions.

How does a wired alarm system work?

A wired alarm system consists of a base station that is connected to the internet via WiFi, a network cable or by using a SIM card. As the name suggests, the sensors and accessories are wired to the base station. This includes door and window detectors. The wired alarm system can then be operated via a smartphone app or via the control panel.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a wired alarm system?

The big advantage of a wired alarm system is the low failure rate and the small chance of sabotage. For this reason, wired alarm systems are still installed by the insurer at companies where a Grade 4 or higher delivery or BORG certificate is required.

Disadvantages of a wired alarm

The main disadvantage of a wired alarm system is the time and labor required for installation. Wires must be routed through the building from the base station to the various detectors. This is sometimes easier to do at a commercial building than at a home, where it may be necessary to route the cables in order to neatly conceal the cables. The stability and quality of certain brands of wireless systems has now come so close to a wired alarm system that it is no longer necessary for individuals, but also for most companies, to opt for a wired alarm system.

Is there a good alternative to wired operation?

With the arrival of Grade 2 wireless alarm systems from various well-known brands, it is a very good alternative to a wired alarm system, at least up to that security class. Due to the secure two-way wireless connection between the base station and the detectors, there is a periodic check whether the detectors and sensors are still functioning correctly, just as is the case with a wired alarm system. Furthermore, the current wireless alarm systems have the same or better further functionalities such as operation via an App or keypad.

Buying a wired alarm system online?

We no longer supply wired alarm systems online at all, among other things, for the reasons mentioned above. On this page we have placed some wireless alternatives to a wired alarm system, which are often not inferior to a wired alarm in terms of ease of use and safety. We would like to show you in one of our stores why it is better to buy a wireless alarm instead of a wired alarm system.
