Solar energy cameras
A solar-powered security camera has an internal battery that is recharged by the solar panel and can therefore be connected without wires. Because the quality and capacity of the batteries is improving, solar energy systems are becoming more and more common. However, in periods of limited sunlight, it should be taken into account that the solar-powered security cameras will still have to be manually recharged periodically.
When to choose a solar-powered camera?
Solar powered security cameras are always outdoor cameras by definition. Due to the operation of the battery and the solar panel, solar-powered cameras can easily be mounted yourself because the security camera only needs to be mounted and no further cables have to be pulled for power or image transfer. As a result, we see that solar-powered security cameras are often placed in a garage or other place in the garden where it is more difficult to place a normal security camera.
What types of solar panel camera are there?
Solar panel camera with Wi-Fi
A solar-powered Wi-Fi camera connects to the Wi-Fi network present on site. After installation, the wi-fi camera on solar energy can be accessed via a smartphone App and any recorded images can be viewed.
Wireless model on solar energy
With a wireless camera on solar energy, a wireless connection is made with a receiver that can be placed at a distance of up to 30 meters from the wireless camera on solar energy. This receiver often contains a storage and an HDMI connection to display the images from the solar-powered security camera directly on a TV or monitor.
With a SIM card
By adding a mobile connection with a SIM card to a solar-powered security camera, the camera can be placed anywhere. Because in addition to having its own power supply, the connection to the internet is now also present in the solar-powered camera. We are these camera models are often used on construction sites, but also at horse stables.
Which camera models are available?
Not all models of security cameras are for sale on solar energy. This has to do with the fact that this technique has not been really applicable in many countries for very long due to the amount of sun and the size of the battery. The following models are already available to order online
Bullet solar panel camera
the bullet model with its bullet shape is the most common solar powered security camera. This is mainly due to the fact that the weather resistance of a bullet camera is very good and, because a security camera with solar panel and battery has to be hung outside, this is a requirement.
PTZ model solar panel camera
A security camera that can move and works on solar energy is also for sale. It should be noted, however, that turning and tilting the PTZ camera consumes a lot of power and therefore large batteries are used with PTZ's solar-powered camera. You sometimes see these on construction sites, but a large part of the box at the bottom of the pole is a battery.
Advantages and disadvantages of operation with a solar panel?
- The advantages of a solar powered security camera are of course the autonomous operation and the simple installation. The possibility of adding a SIM card makes a solar-powered camera very versatile. Due to its own power supply, there are no restrictions on the locations of the camera in that area.
- The disadvantages of a solar-powered security camera are that the location where this camera is placed must have enough sun to charge the battery every time. If this is not possible due to the location or country, you will periodically have to recharge the solar-powered security camera yourself with a charger to make it work again.
