How does a spy camera detection device work?
A camera detection device can work in two different ways. The most common method of detection is by searching for the lens with a lens finder. With all cameras, the lens must have a view of the room it wants to film, because otherwise the camera cannot take any images. The second way of camera detection is through the detection of the wireless signal. These detection devices notice when there is a Wi-Fi or other wireless connection.

A lens search device has a peephole surrounded by several laser LEDs. When you look through the peephole and the laser LEDs are on or blinking, you can see the difference between a wall and a camera lens based on the reflection. The difference between the models of lens viewfinders mainly lies in the material used and the strength of the laser LEDs. With the advanced models you can investigate a room more quickly, because you have to go less close to walls, ceilings and objects and the like for the camera to detect. - Signal detector
Detecting a camera with a transmitter detector is another possibility to detect hidden cameras. However, this method of camera detection only works when the camera sends a signal. This can be the case, for example, with a Wi-Fi or wireless camera. The signal detector then records the signal and signal strength from the camera so that you can locate it.
Which spycam detector model to choose?
Although a combination of both camera detection methods gives the best result, we advise most of our customers to choose a good lens finder. This is because many spycams also do not emit a signal and a lens finder is relatively cheaper.
