Security camera sets are camera systems that consist of separate cameras and a recorder. The images from the security cameras are sent to the recorder wirelessly or via a cable. The images from the various cameras can be viewed from the recorder and the recorder can be connected to a monitor or TV for direct display of the images from the camera set. How does a security camera set work?
A security camera set consists of several parts. The base station is a recorder. It is also called NVR, which stands for Network Video Recorder. This NVR receives the images from the connected cameras via a connected cable or wirelessly. The NVR usually has a hard disk on which the images are recorded, during movement or continuously. The display can be done via the HDMI port of the NVR as well as via the internet via a browser or smartphone App.

Even with a complete security camera set it is possible to view the images of the different cameras via a smartphone App. So you do not need an IP or Wi-Fi camera for this. The recorder of the camera set is connected to your router via a cable or a Powerline adapter and you can then access it via the internet. Unlike IP and Wi-Fi cameras, a security camera set can also be accessed remotely via a computer. Software for Windows and Mac computers is included with the recorder to make this possible. The applicability of a security camera set is therefore very large and can therefore also be used for remote monitoring or via a control room.
Wireless and wired sets
The biggest difference between the different security camera sets is the way of image transmission. With most camera sets this is done via a UTP cable, but this is also possible wirelessly via Wi-Fi or powerline adapters.

With a wired security camera set, a UTP cable runs from each camera to the recorder. This UTP cable provides power to the camera via the POE port of the recorder and vice versa, the images with any sound are sent to the recorder. The advantage of a wired security camera set is that it is a closed system that does not depend on other factors and is therefore the most stable in operation and the least susceptible to interference.
Security camera sets that work wirelessly
With a wireless security camera set, the transmission of images and sound from the connected cameras is wireless. A Wi-Fi or 2.4Ghz digital signal is used as a technique for this. The security cameras still need a power supply, which may also be a battery. The advantage of a wireless security camera set is mainly the ease of installation. Anyone can install and set up such a wireless camera system themselves. The disadvantage of security camera sets that work wirelessly is that they are more sensitive to sabotage and interference.
Which security camera set models are there?
All models of cameras can be connected to a security camera set, as long as they can communicate with the recorder. It is advisable to pay attention to the security camera brand and, if in doubt, to contact the supplier of the recorder. The different camera brands often have dome, bullet, PTZ and mini cameras in their range.

Especially with security camera sets that are already sold as a kit, you will often find a dome camera model. this is because this model of camera can be placed in most places due to its compact size.

This rectangular camera is used in security camera sets when the camera needs to be clearly visible or needs to film over a longer distance.
When to choose a complete set?
If what you are protecting is so important that sabotage or malfunction is unacceptable, we always recommend choosing a security camera set. This even if you only want to install 1 security camera. The advantage of a complete set compared to Wi-Fi cameras or other wireless models is that the operation is always guaranteed and cannot be disturbed by a third party. In addition to real sabotage, you can also think of a loss of the Wi-Fi signal in the event of a malfunction.
