Motion detection for an alarm system is an essential part of the system. The sensor is often a PIR sensor, possibly supplemented with microwave or radar detection. When motion is detected, the sensor sends a message to the base station of the alarm system. With a motion detector with photo verification, one or more photos of the movement are immediately sent with this notification.
How does motion detection work in an alarm system?
Motion detection of an alarm system works in most cases with a PIR sensor. This sensor does motion detection with infrared technology where a difference in heat is detected. With the somewhat cheaper systems, this works on the basis of light changes and with the more expensive and more professional alarm systems, the motion detection is done by 2 or more techniques to prevent false alarms as much as possible.
When to use a motion-detecting sensor?
With alarm systems you can often choose between motion detection and contact detection or a combination of these. The motion detection in an alarm system is done by a motion detector and the contact detection by a magnetic contact. Depending on the space to be protected, a choice can be made which sensor or combination of sensors to hang. In a room that has several doors and windows, a motion sensor for motion detection can sometimes be a better and cheaper solution than placing a magnetic contact on every window or door. A motion sensor can therefore independently detect movement up to about 12 meters in a room without the addition of other sensors.
Difference between wireless and wired operation
A motion sensor is available in both wired and wireless versions. Since the arrival of Class 2 wireless alarm systems, we only offer more wireless models in our webshop. As a result, the added value of a wired motion tenor and the ever-improving battery efficiency have become unnecessary in an alarm system in our opinion.
Buy motion detection for alarm systems?
When buying a motion detection sensor for an alarm system, it is important to do this from the same brand or else a model that works on exactly the same frequency. The different systems all have their own protocol and the sensors are not interchangeable between the different systems.
