Battery alarm system

A battery-powered alarm system means a system where not only the sensors work on battery, as is the case with many wireless systems, but where the central station also works on battery. Due to the battery operation, these sets are very suitable for use in recreational vehicles and other places such as garages where there is no power.

What are the uses of a battery-powered alarm system?

An alarm system that works entirely on battery is very suitable for securing a motorhome, caravan, folding trailer or boat. With these systems you are not dependent on any power supply on site and can install yourself quickly and easily due to the battery operation. The base station on battery usually contains a SIM card to send a notification in the event of an alarm, but there are also stand-alone alarms on battery that only give a sound signal.

What types of battery-powered alarm systems are there?

A battery-powered alarm system can actually be divided into 3 groups. We will briefly describe them below so that you can determine which battery-operated alarm system is most suitable for you.

  • With SIM card
A complete alarm on battery consists of a base station with control panel and one or more detectors and sensors. For example, a complete alarm system on battery can consist of a base station, magnetic contact, pir motion detector and siren. When a detector is triggered by, for example, a movement, it will send a wireless signal to the base station. The base station will then send a notification to the set users via the SIM card, via a call, SMS or via the internet.
  • A stand-alone with SIM card
A system where both the detector and the SIM card are in the same device is understood under this category of battery-powered alarm systems. An example of this type of system is, for example, a PIR motion detector with battery and built-in SIM card.
  • Stand-alone on battery without SIM card
The battery-powered systems that do not have a built-in SIM card, but only give a sound signal when the detector is activated, do not fall under the general description of an alarm system, but are often used. This could include an alarm system for a door, which will give a signal when the door opens.

What are the advantages of a battery-powered alarm system?

The independence of the facilities such as power and internet at the place where you want to install the alarm system on battery is the biggest advantage of such a system. You can also set up the battery-powered alarm system at home, for example, and then you only have to hang it in the location where you want to use the system.

What are the disadvantages?

Most alarm systems that run on battery have more limited functionality than an alarm system that can use the power and internet (Wi-fi) of the place where it is installed. this is mainly due to the fact that with a battery-powered alarm system, a battery saving mode is activated, which means that certain functionalities are not possible. A battery-powered alarm system is also often more expensive.
