This pen-style security camera set consists of a pen-style camera and an Android smartphone. The phone comes with an app that allows you to view the pen-style camera's live footage from another smartphone or PC, remotely. You can also record the footage directly on the smartphone, view it on the screen, and play it back.
How does the pen security camera smartphone kit work?:
The pen camera connects directly to the included smartphone via a micro USB cable. This USB cable powers the pen camera and transmits images to the smartphone. We've installed an app on the smartphone that allows you to view the images directly and optionally record them to the phone's memory. Viewing from a different location is possible using specific PC software or by installing an app on another Android smartphone.
Watch live via an Android App:
If you install a specific app on an Android smartphone other than the one supplied, as described in the manual, you can view the pen camera's images live from that phone. You will then need to connect the bag camera's smartphone to the internet with a SIM card or Wi-Fi.
Watch live via a PC:
When certain software is installed on a PC as mentioned in the manual, it is possible to view the images from the pen camera live from that PC.
Remote viewing server costs:
Remote viewing uses a server from the supplier, located in Taiwan. There are fees associated with using this server. The first year is free, but subsequent years incur a fee of €99.95 per year, including VAT. This is optional and not a subscription, but must be paid for (prepaid) before the end of the year. The pen camera can still be used without the server after this year if you do not wish to renew, but remote viewing will no longer be possible.
Can I also use the pen camera on my own smartphone?
Unfortunately, this isn't possible. This pen camera kit includes a smartphone with everything pre-installed, ready to use immediately after purchase. However, you can remotely view the footage on your own smartphone, as long as it's an Android smartphone. There's no app available for iOS devices.
