Discover the risk class of your home or business premises

The Dutch Association of Insurers has drawn up the VRKI in collaboration with the Center for Crime Prevention and Security. This is a measuring instrument that determines the risk of burglary in homes. The burglary risk is important because it makes clear which security measures are needed.

Improved risk class classification (VRKI)

VRKI stands for: improved risk classification. The VRKI is used by insurers for determining insurance premiums. It is important for homeowners to meet certain requirements, as this can result in a discount on the insurance premium.

Risk and security class

There is a clear difference between your risk and security class. A risk class determines the burglary sensitivity of homes. The presence of audiovisual equipment, computers, jewelery and cash is examined. Special collections and art also play an important role.

Your risk class is determined by the value of your household effects. This looks like this:

  • Up to and including € 50,000 risk class = 1
  • From € 50,001 to € 100,000 risk class = 2
  • From € 100,001 to € 150,000 risk class = 3
  • From € 150,000 risk class = 4

Do you want to know in which risk class your home falls? You can estimate this based on the information above. Do you really want certainty? Then ask an appraiser for advice. This can determine the exact value of your household effects.

A security class is linked to each risk class, this is the most suitable combination to prevent a burglary. Your security class is shown with letters, supplemented with a number.

Security certificate and delivery certificate

For security measures, certification is based on the VRKI. A distinction is made here between a security certificate and a delivery certificate. The security certificate demonstrates the quality and coherence of security measures. A delivery receipt applies for the partial implementation of security measures.

When do you come into contact with the Dutch Association of Insurers?

Not everyone has to deal with the Dutch Association of Insurers, an association of non-life and life insurers. Do you want to take out household insurance? Then you will indirectly have to deal with the regulations of the Dutch Association of Insurers.

It has been determined, for example, that people who meet the requirements of the VRKI will receive a premium discount on their household or household insurance. This discount varies from 10% to 20% on the nominal premium. Insurers are free to determine this discount themselves.

Protect your home optimally with an alarm system that is connected to the control room and has a telephone report. Also opt for safe locks, fire alarms and lighting at the entrance doors. Do you meet all requirements that fall within the VRKI? Then you are eligible for an attractive premium discount.

Pay close attention to the alarm systems offered. The alarm system with VEB certificate in many cases meets the requirements set by insurers. Contact your insurer in advance or look in your policy for more information.

There are also differences between BORG certification and VEB delivery / certification. The management of BORG falls under the CCV (committee of crime prevention stakeholders) and is intended for security companies. The VEB regulation applies to homes and is intended for VEB members.
