A dummy camera or fake camera is almost indistinguishable from a real camera. You cannot record images with this and the camera only works as a preventive measure against burglars or criminals. In which situations do dummy cameras have added value?
Preventive effect of dummy cameras
More and more criminals are paying attention to the security of homes and businesses. Anyone who stays out of sight of surveillance cameras has a minimal chance of being caught. Areas with visible cameras are therefore fearfully avoided. A dummy camera works preventively against burglary, theft or vandalism. This can save you a lot of financial loss.
Dummy camera must look real
Many dummy cameras don't really look enough. For example, the vast majority of these models are equipped with a flashing LED light. This attracts the attention of criminals, which may make them choose the hare path. However, the most modern security cameras no longer have a flashing light and you fall through the basket this way. Do you want a dummy camera without flashing light? Then remove the batteries.

Of course it sounds strange to connect a dummy camera. It is therefore not the intention that you connect this to mains power, you pretend. Put a piece of cable in the wall, so it looks like your camera is connected to AC power and a recorder.
The right dummy camera cannot be distinguished from the real thing
Choose high quality dummy cameras. These can hardly be distinguished from the real thing. Choose a camera that is intended for outdoors, with a sturdy metal housing or a so-called ball camera. Depending on the model, dummy cameras are suitable for inside or outside. Pay attention: an indoor camera does not have a watertight housing and must have the design that fits the application of a camera.
Dummy camera vandal proof
Burglars or vandals can destroy your dummy camera or try to take it with you. It will not be the first time a security camera has been stolen. Prevent theft and choose a vandal proof model. This model is attached in a special way and is therefore not easy to carry.
Dummy camera with motion detector
The dummy camera with motion detector is even more effective. This motion camera automatically makes movements when detecting motion. These movements make criminals aware of the presence of your dummy camera. Your camera is therefore an effective deterrent and drives away malicious people.
Surveillance cameras and insurance
Please note that you cannot record images with a dummy camera. If a burglary nevertheless took place, you have no images of this. Moreover, with dummy cameras it is usually not possible to receive a premium discount on your household insurance. This only applies if your home meets the conditions set by the Dutch Association of Insurers. Ask your insurer about this.
A dummy camera can be combined perfectly with real security cameras, alarm systems or driveways. This combination is suitable for use in homes, business premises or in a yard.
