Surveillance cameras: difference between Full HD and Ultra HD resolution

  • 6 Apr 2018

Image quality plays an important role in camera surveillance. A crystal clear image ensures that you have high-quality evidence when something bad happens. You can choose from surveillance cameras with different resolutions. The best-selling models: 4K Ultra HD, 2K HD and Full HD. Do you know the difference between Ultra HD and Full HD?

What is 4K Ultra HD?

Ultra HD is also called 4K. These are surveillance cameras with a very high resolution, four times higher than Full HD. The image has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. 4K has been used in the cinema for years and is now also available for commercial and private use.

Is Ultra HD 4K better than Full HD?

There is a substantial difference between Ultra HD and Full HD. This difference is clearly visible on a large screen and Ultra HD images are also considerably sharper on a smaller screen. A Full HD security camera is not necessarily worse. You can take excellent images with this in clear weather or sufficient light. Did you know that the 'p' in 1080p stands for 'progressive'? This means that all 1080 image lines are refreshed separately from top to bottom. This gives a better image quality than 1080i. Is monitoring or supervision an important point for attention? Then it is best to opt for Ultra HD camera surveillance.
Imagine if an incident or crime takes place in your company or residence. In the case of camera surveillance, the perpetrator is then captured with surveillance cameras. However, the images can only serve as evidence if the incident and the accompanying faces are clearly visible. In all other cases, the identity and events remain a guess. To prevent this, choose 4K Ultra HD security cameras.

Price difference between Full HD and 4K camera surveillance

The cost may be decisive when purchasing camera surveillance. A 4K Ultra HD security camera set with recorder and four cameras costs around € 2000. You pay around € 1000 for a similar set in Full HD. This means that you pay twice as much for better image quality. In addition to improved image quality, you can also count on better night vision at up to 60 meters with 4K. With Full HD cameras there is often no more than 10 meters of night vision.

Do you opt for Full HD or Ultra HD?

Make your own decision when it comes to choosing the image quality, depending on your requirements you need Full HD or Ultra HD.
