What is a driveway detector with app?

A driveway detector with app is a system that detects movement or passage on a driveway and sends a notification to a smartphone. This PLUS EU version uses a professional 3-beam light barrier for accurate detection of people and vehicles and can also send push notifications to the app.

This solution is also often sought as a wireless driveway alarm, driveway alarm, infrared light barrier, beam detector or light barrier driveway detector. The system is suitable for homes, companies and sites where you want to know early that someone is arriving.

How does this driveway detector with app work?

The two beam units are placed opposite each other. Three invisible infrared beams run between the units. When a person or vehicle passes the detection line and interrupts the beams, a wireless signal is immediately sent to the receiver.

The receiver with PLUS outputs is linked to the app module. As soon as a detection occurs, the receiver activates the app module and you receive a push notification on your smartphone. You will not receive a camera image, but a clear message that the light barrier has been activated.

App module with network connection

The light barrier itself does not require WiFi and communicates wirelessly with the receiver. Only the app module is connected to a modem, router, switch or network point via an Ethernet cable to enable smartphone notifications.

Because the receiver with outputs and the app module are connected with a short cable, these parts are usually placed close to each other. In practice, the meter cupboard or a place near the router often makes the most sense. Two sockets are required for the receiver and app module.

Light barrier or motion detector?

A light barrier is especially suitable when you want to monitor a fixed passage, such as a driveway, gate or access path. Detection takes place on a predetermined line, making notifications highly targeted.

A motion detector is often more suitable when you want to monitor a larger area. If you are unsure between the two solutions, a light barrier is usually the best choice for long driveways and clear passages, while a PIR sensor is more suitable for open areas.

Detection of vehicles and people

The 3-beam light barrier detects both people and vehicles passing through the passage. This makes the set suitable for cars, vans, campers, tractors, trucks and other vehicles that use a gate or driveway.

Because all three infrared beams must be interrupted, this provides reliable detection that is suitable for daily use in homes, businesses and agricultural areas. Pedestrians are also detected when they pass the detection line.

Why choose a 3-beam light barrier?

A light barrier monitors a fixed line instead of an entire area. This means you know exactly when someone actually passes through a passage. This often makes a light barrier more accurate than a general motion detector.

Because three infrared beams must be interrupted simultaneously, the system responds less quickly to small animals, leaves or temporary disturbances. This ensures reliable notifications and more peace of mind in daily use.

LCD calibration and precision mounting

Each beam unit features LCD calibration allowing you to check correct alignment during installation. This is especially important at longer distances, because good alignment directly affects the reliability of the detection.

Place the beam units on a stable surface, post or wall and ensure that the detection line remains free of moving branches, tall grass or loose objects. After installation, check whether people and vehicles pass the detection line in the right place.

Solar panel and outdoor use

The beam units have an integrated solar panel and a rechargeable battery. This means that no power cables are needed at the light barrier outside and the installation remains practical for driveways, gates and areas where there is no electrical socket.

The housing is IP66 and suitable for outdoor use. The infrared rays work during the day and at night, so the system remains active even in the dark. For optimal operation, it is wise to place the units in such a way that the solar panel can receive sufficient daylight.

PLUS EU system

This light barrier is part of the PLUS EU product line. All PLUS EU receivers, motion detectors, light barriers, relay modules and app modules are coordinated and suitable for use in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

This allows you to easily expand the system with additional detection points or receivers. For example, you can place an extra sensor at a side path, use a second light barrier at a rear entrance or place an extra audible receiver in your home, office or shop.

Recommendation: extra audible receiver

The receiver with outputs and app module are usually placed near the modem or in the meter cupboard. As a result, the sound signal from this receiver is not always clearly audible in the home, shop or workspace.

If, in addition to push notifications on your smartphone, you also want to hear a clear sound signal in a place where you are often present, we recommend an additional PLUS EU receiver. For example, consider a table receiver in the living room, kitchen, reception, office or workshop.

Who is this set less suitable for?

This set is less suitable if you only want to receive a simple local call notification at home. In that case, a standard PLUS EU set without an app module is often simpler and cheaper.

Even if there is no fixed network point or internet connection available at the location where the app module is to be installed, this app version is less suitable. The light barrier itself continues to work wirelessly, but the app module requires internet for push notifications.
