Eavesdropping channels: UHF and GSM channels compared

  • 9 Sept 2013

Monitoring stations are small monitoring devices that can be subdivided into UHF / FM and GSM stations. The difference between these 2 spy transmitters is the way in which the sound from the space of the spy transmitter is sent to the receiver. Due to the difference in technology between the UHF and the GSM transmitters, these are also suitable for different applications, although due to the rise in mass production of GSM transmitters, they are increasingly gaining ground on the UHF and FM transmitters, because the GSM transmitters are cheaper in purchase and suitable for more applications.

FM, VHF and UHF monitoring stations:
The spy transmitters that work on the FM, VHF or UHF technology use a certain wavelength just like a radio station does. These monitoring stations consist of a transmitting device which, depending on the model, can be connected to a battery or fixed power supply and a receiver.

Benefits of FM, VHF and UHF stations:
- Small in size and can be built into an electrical outlet
- Long operating time possible
- Better sound quality than GSM spy transmitters

Disadvantages FM, VHF, UHF stations:
- More expensive to buy than mobile phone transmitters
- Transmits distance limited to max 200 meters

GSM listening stations:
GSM eavesdropping stations are eavesdropping devices that have a GSM module as a basis, in which a SIM card must be placed. The GSM spy transmitters work by calling the number of the SIM card in the spy module. The spy transmitter will then automatically open the microphone (s) so that you can hear what is being said in the vicinity of the mobile transmitter. So you do not need a separate receiver, but you can call the sender with any telephone or mobile.

Advantages of GSM channels:
- Fairly cheap to purchase
- Easy to use
- Can be called to the station from any location in the world.

Cons GSM channels
- Sound sometimes a bit disrupted by the GSM network
- Limited battery life if not built into device
