Spyshop Sitcon.nl at Radio 1

On October 31, 2013, Sitcon Security was in the broadcast with the webshop Sitcon.nl at Radio 1. This broadcast came as a result of the fuss that had arisen following recent developments about eavesdropping practices of world leaders and in particular Russia's attempt to eavesdrop on the G20 summit through the use of USB sticks and telephone chargers. Our colleague Ronald was asked about the eavesdropping equipment used by the Russians and if this equipment was a smart way to get access to data.

On the USB sticks and phone chargers distributed by the Russians there was spyware which would install itself when it was connected to a computer or telephone. Subsequently, this spyware would provide Russia with access to all data of the user of the relevant computer or smartphone.

As indicated in the radio broadcast, the eavesdropping equipment used was of a very high technical level and is not directly for sale in private form for private individuals. There are many alternatives for sale that have the same function as the spy equipment deployed by the Russians, but unlike the equipment used at the G20 top, they themselves have to be installed on the telephone or computer and therefore cannot install themselves automatically. Furthermore, the operation is basically the same, whereby after installation all information is unobtrusively collected from the computer and / or telephone and becomes available to the person who installed the spy software.
