A PTZ camera is an (IP) security camera that has a Pan, Tilt and Zoom function, but this name is often also used for cameras that only have Pan and Tilt. The advantages of a PTZ camera are especially being able to cover a larger area with only 1 (IP) security camera.
PTZ camera operation:
A PTZ (IP) security camera is a camera that can rotate on the base and whose lens can zoom in optically. The PTZ cameras exist both as a CCTV security camera model and as an IP form. The difference between these is the way in which the video and possibly audio is transmitted. Because a PTZ camera can rotate and zoom, it can monitor a very large area.
Auto PTZ (Patrol) function:
Most PTZ (IP) cameras have a built-in 'Patrol' function which means that the camera passes the points set by the user at a certain speed and stays where there is movement. In this way the PTZ camera rotates all the time and checks the positions for movement. So how many positions can be monitored for this with the PTZ camera, has the disadvantage that this cannot all be done at the same time and is therefore less stable than, for example, a camera system where a fixed security camera is aimed at every position.
Pan / Tilt versus PTZ cameras:
Although both PTZ and Pan / Tilt are often used as names for the same camera, there is a difference here. The Z with PTZ cameras stands for the zoom function and here optical zoom is meant, so zooming without loss of quality.
