Keylogger's: To see what someone is doing on a computer, hardware or software keyloggers are very suitable. For example, keyloggers are used to monitor children's internet behavior, check on computer activities of staff and many more applications. With a keylogger you can see exactly what is being done on a computer. For example, it is possible to make screen shots of the screen, remember keystrokes and save the internet and chat history.
How does a keylogger work :
To start with, it is good to divide keyloggers into software and hardware keyloggers. With software keyloggers, a program is installed on the computer that stores the information, such as keystrokes, in an invisible folder or forwards it to an e-mail address that you specify. With hardware keyloggers, a device is physically placed between the keyboard and the computer that stores the keystrokes on the keyboard on the internal memory. With a keylogger you can, among other things, register the following:
- Keystrokes
- Websites visited
- Chat conversations
- Incoming and outgoing emails
- Created documents
- Opened documents
- Screenshots
Software keyloggers:
Keyloggers which are installed on the computer as a software program are most suitable for most applications. This is mainly because these software keyloggers have more options than hardware keyloggers. For example, with certain variants it is possible to take screenshots of the screen so that you can also see what happens if nothing is typed. There are also options for forwarding the information to an e-mail address specified by you. In practice, this means you only need once access to the computer on which you have installed the keylogger.
Recently a new kind of spy software for the computer has been launched where outside of the above spy possibilities it is also possible to record spoken chat conversations such as Skype. It is also possible to record the sounds in the environment of the computer. The spy software will then start recording when there is sound.
Hardware keyloggers:
Because hardware keyloggers are physically placed between the keyboard and the computer, they do not need any software installation. The computer can therefore be switched off while you place the keylogger. The only situation where it is more convenient to install a hardware keylogger than to install keylogger software is therefore when you do not have access to the computer, because, for example, it has a password. With a hardware keylogger, all keystrokes are stored on the computer keyboard with a date and time stamp on the keylogger. The hardware keyloggers all have an internal memory where months of text can be stored. You must therefore read the keylogger over time. This can be done on the computer where it is installed, but you can also delete it there and view this information on another computer. After this you empty the memory of the keylogger and it is ready for use again.
